One of the things the movies influence, and try to make people is marry. Why does the government want you to marry so bad? Yeah, why would they want you in small, manageable units? Hollywood influences the decision to marry by making "romantic comedies" in which the male and female (always, I'm not gay, but you'd think there would be one. haha) start off as hating each other, being forced to work together (or are somehow stuck together) and then fall in love and live happily ever after. And they're always opposites, always.
Now, I know I am generalizing, but I think I am pretty close. My whole "Romantic Comedies" netflix group is full of them. When in Rome, The Ugly Truth, He Fucking Hates You but You Still Want Him Cause You're Insecure (haha, kidding! :) ).
How does the government use the media to influence the decision whether to marry or not? I was watching TV, some stupid show (is there any other kind? Except House, and Penn and Teller's Bullshit, and Royal Pains, and... alright, They are rare!). And then this commercial came on. For a website called "TwoOfUs.org". You know, a man and a woman hugging on TV. All happy. "Yay. Two Of Us made us stronger." or some shit like that.
I go the the website (twoofus.org) and what do I see? Tips on how to stay in a relationship longer. They have shit telling you how to work out some difficult issues like addiction and stuff. If your "loved one" does not want to stop doing drugs for you (not marijuana, it's not an addictive drug), even though you asked him/her to -- dump him/her. Obviously he/she doesn't care enough, you'll find someone better. But yeah, also they have these questions about men and marriage and an answer saying marriage is awesome, do it!
But that's not he worst bit. If it was a privately-funded website, it would be fine. Do whatever, freedom of speech and all that. However, that is not the case. If you scroll down to the bottom you will see:
"Funding for this project was provided in part by the United States Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families, Grant: 90-FH-0001"
How much more obvious can they get? Yes, I will obey. I will get married. I love big brother.
I don't think I brought you down, hopefully you smiled at some bits. I just want to open people's eyes. Hope you have a wonderful day and have fun doing whatever you're doing.
All the best,
D-503
interesting information :O xd jaajajaj
ReplyDeleteCool blog man! keep up the great work!
ReplyDeleteYeah why do they want us to get married?
ReplyDeleteI think all this "get married" thing is just arbitrary. My view on marriage is that when two very compatible people meet and decide to take it further than dating only then they should get hitched. Until I meet that person I would like to stay single.
ReplyDeleteMeh, people are just worried that without the traditional family unit, things will go to hell in a handbasket what with the lack of values or some bs like that. The family unit is changing and marriage is no longer as important, so yeah, nothing they can do to stop it.
ReplyDeleteTotaly agree with Lucky13, love comes when you stop looking for it!
ReplyDeleteBut that's where the problem lies. You said that if they decide to take it further they "should get hitched". Why should they? What does a ring around your finger add to the relationship? Nothing.
ReplyDeleteMarriage does have "incentives": Tax breaks, easier to get a job, house, etc. But, why can't everyone get those things right away? Why must we put ourselves into family units?
This idea of marriage was formed in the Dark Ages. When the Church tightened it's grip on society... Well, that will be part 3 - the history of marriage. :)
Xenototh, exactly. Family units are used to indoctrinate children and perpetuate the myth that marriage is "natural". When it is quite the opposite...
ReplyDeleteMarriage in my family is done out of convenience, not out of love. The desire to be financially sound is paramount, second to love.. Sad, but true.
ReplyDeleteVery thought provoking.
ReplyDeleteIt deppends. People decide to marry when they are already involed enough to make such promises so all that legal stuff is just for their own good (hospital visits, inheritance etc) and church part... for me it's equal to some acting workshops. Your future wife just want to have her show in dress and all that stuff and wants you to play your role in this performance so why not. Marry for fun! Cause commitment and serious emotios are already here if you even consider marriage
ReplyDeletei agree with this post
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good post. Good discussion on this subject.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to hear about non-hollywood films. I almost never hear that.
ReplyDeleteIm against marriage actually and yeah i always see this kinda stupid retarded things on movies like, The Jews are always the victims, Germans are always evil, Americans are always the good guys( Valid its an american movie not much you can do there). But still its only movies but as you said they do have are very influential specially on the weak and indecisive minds.
ReplyDeleteyou made a point out there, @Malkavian you just sound nonsense. @Admin yeah I guess we all
ReplyDeletejeeps are fun, im a slave to mine lol
ReplyDeleteBest choice is not to
ReplyDeleteYeah, I don't wanna get married.
ReplyDeleteOh no! Propaganda! Oh well, I'll probably never get married. I'm pretty sure I'm destined to be alone... It's a sad but true reality.
ReplyDeleteThis is great!
ReplyDeleteForever alone. :(
ReplyDeleteMarriage is part of the "American Dream". That's one of the reasons were brain washed with the idea. I probably won't get married or for a really long time.
ReplyDeleteI'm always afraid that there will be no woman for me to marry, so I have never thought of it :/
ReplyDeleteVery interesting post. On the point about only talking about Hollywood films, I would love to read some posts about Bollywood films. I know they have the reputation for being cheesy but there is an subgenre of films that are politically charged, gritty and challenging.
ReplyDeleteGood blog.
ReplyDeleteMy view on marriage is that when two very compatible people meet and decide to take it further than dating only then they should get hitched. agree
ReplyDeleteLOL. First time I've read this kind of view on marriage. You make it sound like some sort of Illuminati doing like religion. But this shit happens around the world, you just can't look at Hollywood specifically on using media to force marriage. What about Africa?
ReplyDeleteInteresting view on marriage. I certainly never thought of it that way.
ReplyDeleteAw interesting, i'm afraid as well that I can stop loving her, that would be horrible, more than stop being loved, it would be horrible, and even more having kids, I'll think it twice! Take care, thank you!
ReplyDeleteI couldn't image myself being with a girl for all my life ... and when I met my actual wife I proposed to her after only 8 months! ... So, just let things come to you!
ReplyDeletenice post m8. though i would like to get married someday >.<
